About The Highlander Restaurant & Bar:
The Highlander opened April 9th, 1992 in a nearly empty shopping strip located in a run down part of town. Only the four partners, and maybe their moms, believed their business could take off. A year later the heavy dinner traffic conflicted with the crowds from Atlanta's music scene. This led to bar doubling in size with the opening of the Midtown Music Hall at The Highlander. Over the first couple of years, three of the original partners (Jim Hancock, Rob Wilson, and Thomas Grant) left for love or money. By 1996, the partners' love of the music scene had been overshadowed by the difficulty and work involved in producing and promoting a live music venue. The Midtown Music Hall was closed and filled with pool tables, pinball games, and an air hockey table. Today in 2005, the same empty shopping center is now full of trendy clubs and restaurants. The same run down neighborhood that housed our $300/month apartments is now full of $300,000 condos. But the changes, The Highlander will always be The Highlander. Come by for a visit. Stay for a Jäger or 2.
